I consider Anne Frank to have been a child prodigy—her writing beyond her years. And yet, although I admire her for her insightful writing and ambition, what I think I love about her is
that I can tell she was a wonderful human being, a generally happy person—someone with an inner joy and playfulness. Yes, towards the end, she had many difficult days. But this piece celebrates the ones filled with happiness and cheer.
There are quite a few photos of Anne Frank in books and magazines. The ones I’ve seen, though, are all in black and white. I wanted to make a painting of Anne that would have a dash of color.
